Vicente Huidobro's En la luna: Creationism and referentiality
Abstract
Vicente Huidobro's play En la luna (On the moon), with its rich literary and theatrical elaboration and its intertextual relation to Jarry's aesthetics of "guignol," is a signal instance of the Creationist program calling for the invention of autonomous poetical worlds. Beyond this, the play's reference to the carnivalesque political reality of the 1920's and the early 1930's makes it as well an acutely perceptive social satire.
