Abstract

This paper explores several detective novels in order to propose a reading of crime from an urban

perspective. Certain ideological elements are related to their appearance in the recent detective story

and an explanation is attempted in regards to how this story shapes itself from them, focusing on certain

spaces that bearing a specifi c historical burden. In this regard, the idea of a determining historical crime is

worked out, which acts as a counter reading for the particular crimes that each of the novelists refers to. In

this sense, the reader decodes a criminal plot while he discovers the story line of a historical crime which

affected the whole country, and from which novelists construct a specifi c mapping in this literary genre.
